Klay: I don’t mind playing as a backup, I know I can still do great things
6686 Sports News on November 7, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd made adjustments to the starting lineup in the game against the Pelicans, removing Klay Thompson from the starting lineup and playing as a reserve player. This is the first time Thompson has not entered the starting lineup since joining the Mavericks.
Although, Kidd pointed out that this decision "is not permanent", the main purpose is to activate the team's offensive firepower, because the Mavericks have recently lacked sustained scoring performance on the offensive end. However, Thompson has been quite calm about the change and is confident in his role and future performance.
"I don't mind," Thompson responded when asked about the appearance of the reserve team. "I will perform. I will do great things. That will come, I know very well."
Looking back on the slow competitive state at the beginning of the season, the 35-year-old veteran player admitted that he needs time to regain his competitive state.
Thompson said in an interview: "The first five games of the season were really difficult for me. I needed to get my body back into the rhythm of the game. Now I finally started to find the feeling that belongs to me again. As a shooter, when you feel the smoothness of the ball popping out of your hands naturally, you know that good things are coming."
